Principal

Pope John Paul II High School is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory school. JPII is looking for a dynamic leader to partner with the President to build upon the school’s amazing foundation and expand Catholic high school education in Thurston County.

The Principal is responsible for the continuing Catholic faith formation of the faculty and the students, the school’s educational and co-curricular programs, and managing the day-to-day operations of the school. The Principal is hired by the President and is directly responsible to the President for administering the educational and co-curricular programs of the school in a manner consistent with the school’s mission and philosophy as archdiocesan secondary school in accordance with policies established by the archdiocese, the school, and the school’s board of directors.

The Principal is the educational, instructional and spiritual leader of the school and officially represents the school with educational authority including the Office for Catholic Schools, of the Seattle Archdiocese and the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The principal will help establish the vision of learning. The principal will partner with the President in cultivating and leveraging key relationships and partnerships within and outside the school with the goal of making education at the archdiocesan high school sustainable.

It is the Principal’s duty to keep the President and the Board of Directors informed at all times of the current status of the school and to work cooperatively with the President and the Board in the development of school priorities. In the absence of the President, the Principal is in charge of the school.

Responsibilities and Duties

Specifically the Principal will:

  • Give clear educational, faith and moral leadership by providing direction to fulfill the mission of the school by regularly holding faculty meetings, speaking to students and parents, and communicating with the school’s constituencies about the mission values, culture, goals, and expectations of the school as a Catholic educational institution in the Archdiocese of Seattle.

  • Regularly meet with the President and report to the Board of Directors on matters requiring their attention.
  • Assign administrative and teaching duties, and provide for supervision, job descriptions, and annual evaluation procedures for all employees that report to the Principal.
  • Provide for ongoing professional development of the faculty and staff.
  • Hire and terminate all employees reporting to the Principal, with the consent of the school’s President.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately and appoint committees and councils to advise and assist in achieving the Catholic educational mission of the school.
  • Approve the school’s master schedule, annual calendar, and daily schedule, as well as coordinate the scheduling of all school related activities.
  • Work with the President, the Office Manager, and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors in the development of the annual budget; and monitor compliance to and fiscal control over the budget for staff development, school administration, co-curriculars, and academic departments.
  • Supervise and maintain a sound disciplinary system to ensure an appropriate educational climate.
  • Represent the school in all official functions relating to the educational community and project a positive image of the school in the community.
  • Coordinate and supervise all state and federally funded school programs.
  • Make decisions in the admission and dismissal of students in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Participate in leadership activities including those of the Office for Catholic Schools, of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
  • Be available, accessible and effective in communications with parents, students and the Broad constituency of the archdiocesan high school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President appropriate to the position of Principal.

Required Qualifications

  • All candidates must be practicing Roman Catholics and hold a current Washington State Principal Credential (or similar credential).

Bookkeeper/Office Manager

The Bookkeeper/Office Manager is the primary financial officer for accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and payroll for the school. This position reports to the President.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Accounts Payable
    • Process vendor invoices for payment bi-monthly
    • Maintain vendor files, W-9 information, and annual 1099 forms and reporting
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Setup family billing accounts and enrollment contracts, including Financial Aid, in FinalSite
    • Communicate with families if financial questions arise
    • Work with the advancement office to track donations and pledge payments
    • Review tuition and payments received through FinalSite and other database driven vehicles – Square, DonorPerfect, etc.
  • General Ledger
    • Daily deposit and GL entry
    • Prepare monthly journal entries
    • Reconcile bank accounts
    • Maintain accurate monthly account reconciliations
    • Maintain Fixed Assets records and annual depreciation calculations
    • Perform the Monthly closing process
    • Other duties as assigned may include basic office tasks and human resource duties
  • Payroll
    • Prepare and submit bi-weekly payroll in PayCom payroll system and enter in GL
    • Payroll and benefits lead in coordination with Archdiocese Benefits and Payroll office

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Three years or more of experience in bookkeeping/business management.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents and students.

Advancement Director

JPII is looking for a dynamic Advancement Director to partner with the President to build upon the school’s amazing foundation and expand Catholic high school education in Thurston County.

The Advancement Director provides energetic leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the school’s annual fundraising and recruitment programs, including the Annual Appeal, major gifts, annual admissions/recruitment, the Take Flight Scholarship Breakfast and the Light & Truth Gala. The position is also responsible for the leadership and oversight of the JPII Alumni Association, as well as grant writing and grants management. This position reports to the President, informs and manages board and volunteer fundraising, and serves on the Board of Directors’ Development Committee.

Responsibilities and Duties

Fundraising:

  • Fosters a top-down, campus-wide culture of philanthropy and works with all school constituencies to identify and address the school’s funding needs and opportunities.
  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors and President, prepares a comprehensive Advancement Plan which is reviewed, analyzed and adjusted annually to meet the school’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Designs, implements and manages all annual, institution-wide fundraising activities and events.
  • In collaboration with the President fosters and maintains strong relationships with all donors.
  • Oversees the integration of student fundraising activities into the annual fundraising calendar of the school.
  • Organizes and supports the Alumni Association in its event efforts, publications, fundraising and database management.
  • Works collaboratively with school communications personnel to provide a consistent message about the school’s identity, mission and strategic goals.

Board of Directors Relations:

  • Manages the Development Committee of the Board of Directors and serves as the staff liaison to committee members.
  • Prepares monthly and year-end development reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Develops and manages fundraising training for Directors and other leadership volunteers and provides administrative support for their outreach efforts.
  • Collaborates with the Board Development Committee in researching and recommending potential Board members.

Admissions/Recruitment/Enrollment:

  • Develop a vibrant Recruitment Team of student and parent ambassadors.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationship and outreach to Catholic schools, parishes, other private schools, homeschool programs, other communities of similar mission and those who might be of best fit for JPII through visits, speaking engagements, providing informative collateral, etc.
  • Works collaboratively with school communications personnel to continue to evaluate and improve our consistent message about the school’s identity, mission and strategic goals specific to recruiting efforts.
  • Work with administrative team to oversee process for applicants including being the primary first contact for all admissions questions.

Development Office Infrastructure/Management:

  • Works with the President to develop the annual budget by providing projected revenues from and expenses for development efforts.
  • Oversight of donor and alumni databases, gift processing and record keeping, pledge reminders, and acknowledgement programs.

Parent/Volunteer Relations:

  • Recruits, trains, and works with parents and volunteers to assist in the annual giving process, special events and other fundraising programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in non-profit development with increasing levels of responsibility, five years preferred.

Math Teacher

Pope John Paul II High School is seeking a teacher who is passionate about helping students achieve success at all levels of math. A physics background is also highly desirable though not required. This position will begin August 2024. Applicants need to have a strong foundation of content, have a solid understanding of student math development, as well as the desire and ability to build relationships with students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education or related field; Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Possess the knowledge and skills to develop positive interpersonal relationships with students and all community constituents.
