JPII Hosts Annual Light and Truth Gala

Thanks to Get Your Smile On the hosting sponsor for the event. JPII was able to host its annual Light and Truth Gala on April, 29th. With keynote speaker Br. Guy Consolmagno, S.J. attendees were blessed with the opportunity to learn more on the subject of astronomy.

Known as “the Pope’s Astronomer”, Br. Guy Consolmagno, SJ, is the Director of the Vatican Observatory and President of the Vatican Observatory Foundation. Though he now lives and works in Rome, Br. Guy is an American research astronomer, hailing from Michigan and specializing in the connection between meteorites and asteroids. He earned undergraduate and master's degrees from MIT, and a Ph. D. in Planetary Science from the University of Arizona; he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard and MIT, served in the US Peace Corps (Kenya), and taught university physics at Lafayette College before entering the Jesuits in 1989.

Students at the school also were in attendance, along with making the whole event run smoothly. Students gave speeches, performances, and introduced Br. Guy Consolmagno, SJ. “The students abilities and performance are what makes the Gala so special” Said JPII’s Advancement Director Megan Farrell.

The Gala was able to Raise close to $300,000 for the important task of continuing JPII’s mission.Thanks to the dollar for dollar donors: Eric Charneski, Dr. Bruce and Carol Cooper, Dr. Jay and Carla Rudd.
